A Newlywed Couple
I find a joke or two can bring sunshine smiles out of faces that are dripping wet in a pouring rain. I was camping near Ohiopyle, PA one time and we were supposed to do a white water rafting trip on the Youghiogheny River.
I was camp cook and it wasn't just raining... It was a constant deluge. I had a white gas cook stove and a campfire. The only reason the campfire was burning was that it was a coal fire.
As I struggled to get everyone a hot breakfast the newlywed couple struggled into our midst and started grousing about camping. I told them no wonder they didn't like camping: they were too intense (two in tents).
It let off some tension and then since I am a merchant marine navigation officer they thought it might be funny to talk about my sextant, but I'll leave that story for another day!
