Kate's Camping Lists

Your site is awesome, I used your great lists when we bought a new RV last year. Since then, your lists have been shared as presents to my fellow camper friends (along with your website address of course!) Thanks.

June is so busy with school/activities/wind up parties etc. that we look forward to heading out camping and sitting in a lawn chair and playing with our kids. No phone, no school, no work! Yippeee, we leave in 4 days for two weeks!

Sleeping Bag

by Diane Andress
(Morrisville, PA)

The most important item that I take with me when I go camping is my sleeping bag. I just can't sleep without having a blanket, that and since I'm still afraid of the dark I and pull the cover up over my head if I get scared.

Yeah it sounds dorky but I can live with that. As long as I got my sleeping bag I'm a happy camper. I might be able to go without it, but why risk not being able to sleep and turning into a complete grump for the next day? Personally I'd rather just be cozy and happily asleep.

There's my opinion, don't like it? Tuff! I'm just kidding.

Next time I go camping, just think of this while you're freezing, I'll be snug as a little bug.

SLAP!!!! Where's the BUG SPRAY?????

by Debbie Smith
(O'Fallon, IL U.S.A.)

The most important item on my camping list is BUG SPRAY. The reason is when you go out on nature hikes or explorations, of course you want to have all the necessities such as water, food and bedding.

However in my experience as a camper I have found that all the above do you no good, if the BUGS are BUGGING you. It's very hard to hike when you are constantly slapping your neck, face, hands and legs.

Then you sit down to eat, and those darn flies are eating you while you are trying to eat your food.

At bedtime, you prepare your sleeping gear/bag/cot, and there they are again, mosquitoes, flies, spiders (some poisonous)are ready to settle in for a long nights sleep with you.

So for comfort reasons, not to mention safety reasons, BUG SPRAY is a must.

A warm sleeping bag.

There's nothing worse than freezing all night long.

Bug Spray: Don't Leave Home Without It!

by ErinK
(Cleveland, Ohio)

Bug spray is by far the most important item on my camping checklist. It is not even the fact that bug bites are annoying, but it is that I have a fear of a repeat of a previous camping trip.

The first time that I ever went camping, I was not familiar with what I should or should not bring. Being the typical, "girly girl", I brought along make up, a portable cd player, and perfume. Not thinking that the perfume would most likely attract the bugs!

So, halfway through the trip, I was swarmed with bugs who seemed to be interested in only me. When I got home, I was laid up in bed with a few hundred mosquito bites (or so it felt like!) and had to take oatmeal baths every few hours to try and stop the itching.

I have gotten more used to camping now and can appreciate it's wonders, but I NEVER leave home without two FULL bottles of bug spray, now!
