You call that a storm???!

(New York)

About 4 years ago I went camping at North South Lake in the Catskills, NY with my parents and my brother. The weather predicted for this trip was supposed to be sunny and warm.

For the first few days of our stay, we were able to enjoy the beautiful lake. We swam and went
canoeing and kayaking.

Unfortunately, the weather took a turn for the worse on our third day in. We had gone into town when the rain started to pour.

My mom made one quick stop more before we left. When we got back to the site, we were just able to save the tent from being completely flooded.

We decided to go back into town for dinner. The rain had stopped by then but all the wood was soaked, so there was no campfire that evening.

When we got back, we were looking for an activity to do. My mom pulled out the DVD she rented when we were in town and we watched it in the car.

It was an unconventional way to spend time "outdoors," but we left the doors open and the moon roof open, and it was like our own drive-in movie!

Rainy Camping Trip

A few years ago I took my three children to a lake called Woodward Lake Reservoir outside of Oakdale, California. We planned their week vacation camping a year prior to going.

I am not one who looks into weather reports and I don't check the weather daily. The first night we got there in rained which was fine because its the first night which usually consists of setting everything up.

The next day we woke up to rain so I went down to the local Bait and Tackle store to get anything for the kids to do inside the tent. They didn't really have anything at all so I drove about 30 minutes (another 15 minutes and I would've been home) to a drugstore. I picked up some coloring books, card games, drawing paper, crayons, markers, pencils and erasers.

Our whole week consisted of coloring, drawing and card games. The rain never stopped. I am happy we toughed it out and the kids and bonded very well that week.

We still talk about this day. It wasn't such a bad thing really :)
