Waterproof Matches

At the top of my personal list when I go camping is waterproof matches. A few years ago my husband and our two kids, seven and eight took a camping trip to the Adirondack Mountains.

We stopped on the way up and bought supplies for a camp meal of hot dogs, hamburgers and baked beans. We had borrowed a friend's canoe and chose an island to camp on.

It was a beautiful day and a beautiful spot. We explored the island, got hungry and I went to start a fire to cook on. Well, our water supply had leaked onto the matches and they were no longer usable.

We dined on cold hot dogs and beans that night. Not the end of the world, but now we always have waterproof matches on hand.
