Being a girl scout for fifteen years and a leader for 4, I've learned lots of fun stuff to do while on a camping trip.
Here are some of the things we have repeated over the years that kids really seem to love:
Outdoor cooking: Build a cooking box and make personal peach or apple pies. The kids love to help with the preparation of the food.
Trail Treasure Hunt: Hide clues in the path of the trees that the kids need to find and follow to reach the treasure at the end of the hunt. You can also post adults every so often down the trail and the kids need to work together to answer a question or solve a puzzle before they can proceed.
Night Hike: At our camp, we always did a big night hike around the camp and ended up at the lake in the middle of the camp. It makes it extra fun to bring LifeSavers Wintergreen mints with. At night, when you put them into your mouth and crunch them, they light up and it looks like sparks in your mouth. This has always been the thing that my girl scouts loved the most.
Another thing that the kids loved was that each camping weekend was themed, and all of the activities and food centered around this theme. We even designed t-shirts with the theme, and the kids would wear them for the main activity day.
