Gathering rocks, sticks or shells with kids

by Jim B
(Ventura, Ca)

Our camping adventure activity is to take walks to look for things to gather and bring back to camp.

We will look for rocks to see if any of then are exceptionally pretty or look like they might contain a fossil. We will gather interesting pieces of wood and shells when we camp by the beach.

While we are walking and gathering we also look to see how many different animals we can see. Hopefully no bears!

This is terrific because we are getting exercise while none of us is getting bored. Often we find new paths for taking on another day and sometimes we find little streams or ponds where we can look for fish, or, if we are really lucky...Tadpoles!

When we get back to camp we look over all the things we have gathered and we try to create a story for each one, or for the group.

These are some great ideas, Jim. Thanks for sharing!

Kids love to discover and learn about new things, and there's no better way than to take an adventure walk and discover nature's treasures.
